Largest Amateur Photo Contest Gets Underway In U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTVI) – The Department of Interior has announced the start of the 2013 “Share The Experience” amateur photographers contest.  The contest is the largest photography contest in the U.S.

The contest allow photographer to aspire to be like the great photographers, like Ansel Adams and Thomas Moran, in capturing the endless photographic scenes on the nations public lands.

Contest rules can be found at www.sharetheexperience.org. The contest runs from May 10, 2013 to December 31, 2013.

Old Time Picnic Planned For Children At Old State Capitol

ST. CHARLES, MO. (KTVI) – Missouri State Parks will host an old time picnic for children at the state’s first capital in St. Charles, Missouri on Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Visitors will be transported back in time to an era when children had three-legged sack races, egg on a spoon relays, milk bottle ring and bean bag toss and finding a needle in a hay stack.

The event will also feature watermelon seed spitting contest, horseshoe throwing and pie baking.

The old capitol is located at 200 South Main Street in St. Charles.

Friday Night Concert Series At The St. Louis Zoo Schedule

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – The 2013 Friday night concert series at the St. Louis Zoo has been released.  The concert series is slated to start on Friday, May 24 at 5:00 pm.  The series will go from May 24th to August 30th at the zoo.

All of the concerts are free to the public and go from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Concerts will be located in the Schnuck Family Plaza, in the center of the zoo.

Wentzville Planning & Zoning to Consider New Manufacturing Plant

Wentzville's Planning and Zoning Commission will consider a site plan for a new manufacturing facility in the M & B Sachs Business Park on Edinger Road.

The new facility, if approved by the city, will be a tier one supplier to General Motors' new product line, city documents report.

A tier one supplier, according to Answers.Ask.com, is "a manufacturer who is very high on a company’s chain of suppliers

Two County Smoking Bans Could Be On November Ballot

St. Charles County voters may get the chance to vote on two different proposed smoking bans this fall, one of which is backed by Ameristar Casino, another proposed by a councilman.

County Councilman Joe Cronin, R-district 1, introduced a bill on Monday that puts the smoking ban before voters on the Nov. 6 ballot. His bill includes exemptions for casinos, private residences, private clubs with no employees and retail tobacco stores.

Duello Teachers Bring Summer Reading to Memorial Park

Teachers and administrators from Duello Elementary have mobilized their summer reading efforts and will be reading to children at Memorial Park in Wentzville once a week this summer.

“Mustangs on the Move” is an effort to bring summer reading to youngsters where they live. The program is free and open to school aged children through fifth grade. Teachers, counselors and administrators have volunteered their time to read to students on Wednesdays (except July 4th) from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at Memorial Park, located at 1419 Kathleen Drive in Wentzville. Operation Food Search is providing lunch for those who participate. “Mustangs on the Move” is an extension of the Wentzville School District’s summer reading efforts that include opening its libraries for special hours over the summer to its students. A schedule of those hours by building can be found on the District’s website at www.wentzville.k12.mo.us.
