Largest Amateur Photo Contest Gets Underway In U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTVI) – The Department of Interior has announced the start of the 2013 “Share The Experience” amateur photographers contest.  The contest is the largest photography contest in the U.S.

The contest allow photographer to aspire to be like the great photographers, like Ansel Adams and Thomas Moran, in capturing the endless photographic scenes on the nations public lands.

Contest rules can be found at www.sharetheexperience.org. The contest runs from May 10, 2013 to December 31, 2013.

St. Peters To Host Annual Gateway Games

ST. PETERS, MO. (KTVI) – The Disabled Athletes Sports Association will be hosting its annual Gateway Game Competition in St. Peters this weekend.  The competition will be held on May 18th and 19th at the St. Peters Rec Plex and St. Charles West High School.

Competitions will be held in field & track, swimming and archery.

Athletes from across the Midwest will be competing to qualify for The National Junior Disability Championships, to be later this summer.

St. Peters Offering New Programs And Classes At Rec-Plex

ST. PETERS, MO. (KTVI) – The City of St. Peters is offering new summer programs and fitness classes for the summer.  The programs cover the entire family, from toddlers to adults; Featuring men’s’ basketball league, softball leagues, t-ball, ice skating, hockey, swimming, aqua aerobics and group fitness classes.

Wentzville Board Asks for More Discussion on Parks Funding

Last month, members of the Wentzville Board of Aldermen were surprised to find out that money generated from the 1/2 cent parks sales tax was not being kept in a separate fund.

On Wednesday night, the board asked for further discussion of the subject after approving a contract to outsource the city's pool management services and being asked to approve a $22,000 transfer from the general fund to cover those costs.

Park Board Laments Loss of Sam's Club Sponsorship

The Wentzville Parks Board learned Monday night that a sponsorship offered by Sam's Club for the youth soccer program had to be declined.

Recreation Superintendent Dottie Phillips explained that the sponsorship, which would have amounted to about $3,700, would have allowed the Sam's Club logo to appear on the back of the soccer shirts, on the trophies and banners on the fields. Sam's Club would also have provided "Soccer Mom" and "Soccer Dad" shirts for the parents.
